I live in Maine, have been a sailor all my life, and only recently have become interested in vintage cars. I have had a number of Model A’s and a “T” but always coveted the A400 from the description and photos in Jim Schild’s “Restorer’s Guide.” Finally, this fall, my wife and I purchased our A400, body # 2414, from David Engle of Placerville, CA. He had purchased the car in 2003 from the Glenn Schafer Estate in Placerville. Unfortunately, this is all I know about the history of the car. If any member has more information on this car please let me know. Schafer restored the car during his ownership, to the original Kewanee Green body, Elkpoint green belt with apple green stripe and wheels. The only other information I have is a review of the car for a potential buyer in June 2006 by Les Andrews who concluded by saying, “Overall, this is a beautiful Model A and a joy to drive. It is a car that anyone would be proud to have……I would classify it as an older restoration, although still in excellent condition. In my opinion, as a Master Judge for the Model A Ford Club, I believe this car would still be a 1^st place winner…..” Anyway, we are having fun! We plan to install a Mitchell overdrive this winter and look forward to touring in Maine next summer.
