Bruce & Betty Armstrong

Silverdale, Washington

We acquired our car in 1956.  We are the 3rd owner and it was bought new right here in our area. The car was in good sound condition when we acquired it except for body damage and the normal wear and tear that 25 years of use the original owner would have given it.  There was some wood rot and rust with extensive body damage on the rear and left side.  Sometime around 1933 the engine was replaced for reasons I don't know.  I have the original trunk rack but it had been badly damaged somehow and so I replaced it with what I believe to be an after market one but which might be new old stock.  However, with current day techniques I may resore the original rack and put it back on the car.  I also have what I believe is an original trunk but it is in very poor condition but still may go ahead and rebuild it anyway.

I had Tex Freeland restore the car in 1984/85 to get it ready for the Model A get-together in Portland about 1985 but it was not finished and so did not show it.  Then I put it away and have driven it less than 120 miles.  It was a ground-up body-off restoration and Tex was a master judge and so I believe it was done correctly for the time.  At the time there were some Model A so called experts that said it had the wrong color but we restored it exactly as original but it did have some variations such as a black stripe on the dash instead of the body stripe color.  I put the Tacoma creme color back onto the dash as I really did not like the black.  And no one really could criticize us for that, I don't think.  The body color is aqua green with gray green molding, the same as Jerry Greenfield's car as well as Steve Hamilton's car.  In fact, both of those cars were at our place last year and we took pictures of all three A400's lined up in our yard. *Check the Gallery on www.a400group.com for the photo and story of these three cars.
