I am in the process of redoing the woodgrain in out car and I have yet another question on the subject. When we got the car, the ashtrays were woodgrained along witht the knob on the face. I dont think this is right. I have seen a pic of the ashtrays and the knobs looked like nickle plating or similar. What do I need to do to these pull knobs? If I have to take them off, do they unscrew or what? Thanks everyone.

Hi Arlen: The knobs were originally rivited to the woodgrained face plate of the ash tray. You'll need to carefully drill out the rivit behind the knob and then drill and tap the knob to facilitate reassembly with a screw. I recall tapping my last set of knobs to accept a 4-40 pan head screw. As for the correct plating of the knob, I would suspect that nickel is generally agreed to be correct although I have a NOS set of ash trays that have chrome knobs. The knobs are so small it would be difficult to tell the difference between nickel and chrome. I hope this helps. Take care, A400 Guy
