I have been restoring some fuel shut off valves. After lapping them in I am using Bratton's repair kit which has the packing and some lub/sealer in a small capsule. They recommend appling this lub/sealer to the valve stem when assembling the valve. Has anyone done this? I am wondering if this material hardens in time causing leaks.

Hi Bill:

A few years back I went through all of my shut off valves and did just what you are doing now; rebuilding the d ones worthy ofthe effort. I lapped them with valve compound or toothpaste and used the Brattons kit to reassemble them. I gave some away or sold them, but the two that I kept and used for myself have not leaked. Making the assumption that the Brattons kit is the same now as it was several years ago, I would not expect you to have any leaking issues using that kit.
