I have a question regarding what type of screws to use on the front window side garnish strips.  There are three holes in the front of these garnish moldings for attachment but they are not countersunk as I had expected they would be.  Does that mean they should have a round head or a pan head screw?  What finish should they have, nickel or chrome?  I think they are only visible when the windshield is swung open.

Help.

Larry On both of my A400s these are a special round head screw 10-32 x 3/8 The head dia is 7/16. I believe these should be nickle plated as this the plating Phill Allin calls for in his newsletter #4. They are not visble except when the windshiel is open so you can use any finish but since the JD calls for interior trim to be nickle that is what I used. I have not been able to find a part number for this screw so if any one has it please let us know. It looks like pn 350118-S7 in the Harsware and Trimming Supplies book page 135 but this is Cad plated and is not called out for the A400.

Bill, thanks for taking the time to look into this.

After reading your reply, I found these same 6 screws in box of misc. nuts & bolts from the A-400.  They make perfect sense for this application.

These screws are a slotted truss head machine screw. You can purchase a 1/2 inch long PN THM3036 from Restoration Specialties 814 467 9842 www.RESTORATIONSPECIALITIES.com

Larry,

The fastener you refer to is A-20309-S6 which is listed in the parts price list as a No. 10-32 x 3/8 oval hd. screw (special hd. - pointed end).  The description of the head should technically be a truss head.
