In the 1931 Ford promotional brochure recently posted by Steve Ryan (see Resources), the description of the new Convertible Sedan states that it is available in four smart colors. I wonder which, of the many listed in the MARC-MAFCA Judging Standards, are correct. Now I know that the deluxe models could be ordered in any Ford color, but why would this brochure say "four?" The survey of original body colors conducted in this group some years ago showed that the most common colors were: Black, Washington Blue, Aqua Green, & Kewanee Green. Sorry, you guys, no one reported a Bronson Yellow!

Oops, I went back and read the survey results. Chicle Drab was the 4th most common color reported. Kewanee Green was 5th.  Note the survey was based on over 100 replies where the owners could report the original color of their cars.

In the Supplement to the Ed Rossig's A400 manual he list a Bronson Yellow with a Seal Brown upper, Seal Brown belt, mouldings, and reveals. It also had an Orange stripe with black wheels. This is supposed to be an actual original A400 with these colors.

Rossig's information in the 1963 Supplement was based on his examination of the A400 then owned by William Hatcher. But his description of the color pattern did not match the photos he had of the car. I believe a high contrast color combination such as Bronson Yellow/Seal Brown would have to be done in "Style C" or as shown on Jack Payton's car on the front of my newsletter #8, July 1977. However, Payton's A400 was Arabian Sand or Cigarette Cream after restoration. My comment above only says that the survey we did in the mid-70's did not turn up any A400s which could be verified to be originally Bronson Yellow.
