Recently I saw a top that had the edge binding and welting the same color as the top material. All the pictures I have seen show a contrasting color. The owner said his was like the original. I am confused. What is it really supposed to be or was it both ways??? Thanks John

The A400 owner with the top binding matching the top material may have been misled by the early (March/April 1931) photos of the A400 during development. See the May 1975 Newsletter in "Phil Allin's Newletter" in the Resource section. There are many such features not found on production A400s when the body type was released in May 1931. On the other hand, most of the surviving cars probably do not have the original top fabric today.

Thanks Phil. I wasn't worried about the gentleman's car I observed but about the one I have. I spent a lot of money and wanted to make it at least close to right. Thanks again, John
