A-400 Enthusiasts:
Be sure to study the photo on the May-June 2007 issue of The Restorer. This Ford Motor Co. photo was taken in late July 1921, probably for advertising purposes - although I haven't seen any advertising copy using this photo. The key point is the use of the secondary (reveal) color on the upper part of the top rail. This strip would be hidden by the top material when the top is up.
Also note that the folded top does not lie flat, but angles up slightly from the top bow hinge blocks. The top boot is attached by a single snap fastener on the inside but not on the outside (or did they forget to snap the outside.) It looks to me that the edge binding on the top boot did not contrast strongly with the fabric.
Finally, note how close the stripe is to edge of the upper belt moulding.
