I have recently acquired an A-400 and want to restore it as original as possible.  I'm sure I will be asking a lot of question that have been discussed here in the past.  I will do my best to research the answers to my questions using the great resources on this website first.

I see from an article on driver and passenger seat frames in the last newsletter that they were painted a low gloss brown similar to DUPONT 45944 color.  Where else was this color used? Was this the same color used for the metal bows, etc.?  Is it a laquer?

Larry,

Review the Convertible Sedan Supplement in the Judging Standards and Restortations Guidelines and also obtain the MAFCA Paint Manuel.........Your questions should be answered in these two publications...........

Thanks for the quick reply Tim,

I have read the section you refer to, I guess my question should have been,  Does anybody have a paint formula for the "gray drab color" for the top bows #1  and #3?

When I saw the Dupont paint number for the metal seat parts in the newsletter I wondered if it was the same as the metal bows.  I haven't purchased this Dupont paint yet but I suspect it will be more tan/brown than a gray drab.  Can you help me here?

Thanks, Larry Gilbert

I have never had much luck with formulas..........They get you close, but that is all.  I buy two of the paint manuals and use one to get the paint mixed to the color chip.........The paint store will typically go thru several attempts and gets paint on the chip.........When you think he has it right, check it out in sunlinght and then it will be back to mixing up another batch.  I know it is tedious, but I do not know of any shortcuts.  The equipment they have to scan the chip and come up with a formula generally only gets close to the correct color.  It has been a few years since I had paint mixed and new products are on the market, so I could be behind the times.........Don't know.........Best of luck!
